Holiday | What's In My Wash Bag?

Thursday, 4 June 2015

I'm finally heading off to Paris in the middle of June after years of being in love with a city that I'd never visited. As I've not been away properly for a few years I thought I'd try and do a mini holiday series showing what I'm taking with me! This first post will focus on what I'll be taking in my wash bag and the general every day beauty items I'll be using that aren't makeup related. I've probably way over packed for five days but my reasoning is that it's better to take more than I need than to take less and have to spend my money picking up things I already have at home, right?

Washbag
Storage

To keep all my products nicely separated and organised I'm taking a few different bags to keep them in. They're all ones that I've had in my room for a while so I can't remember where they're from, but Superdrug, Boots and Primark all have brilliant travel bags in at the moment!

As I'm only going for five days, I'll be decanting a few of the products into smaller travel bottles to save on space and weight in my luggage as we'll be going by plane. I picked up this small set of bottles from Primark for £1. I went for these as they worked out a lot cheaper than buying them individually from Superdrug or Boots and they also came with labels so you can remember what's in what bottle plus a handy clear bag which will be useful for keeping my flannel, toothbrush and medication in. I picked up two of these sets as they were dirt cheap and I'm fairly sure I'll use more than the three bottles in the first set. Better safe than sorry!

Skincare

As it's going to be fairly warm when I'm there I want to keep my skin fresh and well moisturised so I can wear minimal foundation, but also not have to worry about what I am wearing rubbing off or just looking 'bad'. To keep my skin well prepped I'll be taking my usual Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Charcoal Facial Scrub from Boots and a travel size version of Simple's Kind To Skin Moisturising Facial Wash. These are both products that I use regularly and work great for my skin as I didn't want to risk trying anything new in case I had a reaction whilst on holiday.

To cleanse and remove any leftover dirt or makeup I'm taking the Pure & Natural Cleansing Lotion from Nivea as it keeps my skin wonderfully soft and really removes any makeup that I have on. I'll then be following it with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to thoroughly clean out my pores and anything that may be left behind. I'm packing some trusty cotton wool pads to use with them but also a pack of Superdrug's Fragrance Free Baby Wipes as I find them useful for giving my face a quick swipe before and after cleansing.

Finally, for moisturising my face I'll be taking my Johnson's Baby Moisturising Cream. This is a product that I started using recently and my face has never felt softer. It also sinks in easily and isn't too thick which makes it an ideal base before priming and applying makeup. To ensure my lips stay chap-free for the perfect red Parisian lip, I'll be using Nivea's Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose, another favourite of mine as it isn't too greasy, thoroughly moisturises my lips and smells amazing.

Washbag
Bodycare

I picked up the Original Source Pure Lime Shower Gel to keep me feeling energised as there's nothing that makes a shower more refreshing than a zesty citron smell. To further keep myself smelling fresh throughout the day I got a travel size version of Nivea Invisible Black & White Deodorant. I'll be pairing that with my usual roll-on and two more fragranced products, a Mango & Papaya Body Spritz (available in Primark) for the day, and of course my all time favourite Chanel Coco perfume for the evenings.

For hair removal I'm packing a couple of my usual razors and Gillette's Satin Care shaving gel in Radiant Apricot (can you tell I enjoy smelling like a giant bowl of fruit?). I don't tend to use shaving gel as I prefer to soak in the bath before shaving, but as I won't really have too much time to do that when in Paris I thought I'd just pick up a gel to prevent shaving rash and make it that little bit easier.

On the rest of my body I'll be using a mini version of the St Ives Apricot Scrub to exfoliate, and Vaseline's Intensive Care Advanced Repair moisturiser as my suitcase consists of mainly dresses and skirts so I want to make sure my legs are prepared to be on show if I decide to ditch my standard black tights! I've also got a small bottle of Malibu SPF15 Suncream as I don't tan easily (thanks Arabic roots) but my tattoo collection has grown a lot and I need to start making sure I keep them well protected from the sun when I'm baring my skin.

Washbag
Haircare

I initially wasn't going to make too much effort with my hair, then I realised I'm going to Paris and want to look as chic as I possibly can. As I have sensitive skin I didn't want to invest in anything new in case of a bad reaction as I mentioned above, so I'm just sticking to my tried and tested favourites.

To keep my hair clean I went for some Superdrug Extracts products as they were on offer at 3 for £3 which is a bargain. I'll be bringing the Refreshing Green Apple & Tea Tree Shampoo and teaming it with the Raspberry & Macadamia Conditioner. Both of these smell absolutely incredible and leave my hair feeling clean and extremely soft.

As for styling, I picked up a small version of a TRESemmé Heat Protect Styling Spray and I'll be taking my got2b Dry Oil Mist and Texturizing Salt Spray as they're both really useful products and don't weigh too much. I'll also be taking a travel size hairspray that I have left over from when I last went away just in case I need to keep my hair in place or as a last resort makeup setting spray. I'm taking my straighteners and my curlers as it gives me more options for my hair and as I'm saving a lot of space by putting everything in to smaller bottles, I decided to wing it and take them both. Last but not least, my trusty Tangle Teezer will of course be coming too as it's the only thing that can get through my incredibly crazy hair without ripping it out or causing huge amounts of pain!

--x-x-x--

So what do you think about what I'll be taking in my wash bag? I can't shake the feeling that I've forgotten something but maybe that's just the norm before going away! Is there anything else you'd recommend me to take with me, or even any French beauty products to pick up when I'm there? Let me know in the comments!

I LOVE how organised you are! <3 I am currently packing for my trip to Barcelona tomorrow and your post is reminding me of so many things that I am forgetting to pack with me! I will literally run downstairs to Boots in an hour to pick up travel sized goodies and some of those plastic storage bottles and bags :P Hope you have a great time in Paris! <3 It is my all time favourite city and I cannot get enough of it even though I have been there for way too many times :D xx
