Gaming | Best of E3 - Part I

Monday, 23 June 2014

It's no secret that I am a massive gaming nerd and fan of video games or anything nerdy in general, I love everything about gaming and the escape it offers when I need a break from reality. With this in mind I've been looking forward to this years E3 for months and months now, one of my favourite times of the year! For those of you who don't know, E3 is a yearly conference where game developers can show off what they've been working on and keep you all informed on the big updates to gaming, so for someone who lives for finding out about the upcoming games and seeing what's on offer, this is a super exciting thing for me.

I was even more excited than usual for E3 this time as it's the year after the release of all the next gen gaming consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), which means information on brand new games for these consoles and the future of gaming! So excited in fact that I've decided to do a two part post to share with you all the games that I've added to my wishlist after finding out more about them at E3.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

One game franchise that I've played since I was young and across my various consoles over the years has been Tomb Raider. It's a gaming classic and everyone should have played at least one of the games at some point if they own a console themselves, if not, where have you been?! It recently underwent a total remake and was given a new, modern look and different game play style. You play as a young Lara Croft as she's just starting out with her exploring and general Tomb Raider-ness instead of an experienced Lara. Although the game wasn't great I still really enjoyed it so I was intrigued when I saw the teaser trailer for it at the Microsoft conference as I hadn't actually heard anything about another game. I'm looking forward to trying this out as I want to continue with the 'new' story and see what young Lara gets up to and how they'll eventually link it up with the older games and the Lara that we all know and love.

Tom Clancy's The Division

Tom Clancy's The Division is probably the game that I am most excited for, I've been following it's development since I first heard about it. It's an open world multiplayer RPG set in a decaying New York City as a direct result of a weaponized virus which wiped out the majority of the population. You play as part of The Division who's goal is to save what still survives and attempt to restore society. What I'm most intrigued about with this game are the multiplayer aspects to it and how well I can play it with friends, from what I've seen in the gameplay demos it looks like a game that would be amazing to play involving a few mates with who you can spend time discussing your plans and how you want to go about things. The Division looks unique and unlike any other game that I've played so far so I have my fingers tightly crossed that it's going to meet my high expectations or be even greater than I expect!

Rainbow Six: Siege

I've never played any of the other games in the Rainbow Six series but I've always heard good things about them as they focus more on stealth, teamwork and tactics rather than straight up shooting everything in sight. The series is based on Tom Clancy's novel, Rainbow Six, about a counter-terrorist unit named "Rainbow". The series has been around since the days of the Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and original Playstation/Xbox which is a pretty impressive feat in my opinion. Siege is the next upcoming game in the franchise and sticks with the popular Rainbow Six elements of tactics and teamwork, though it now features a heavy multiplayer aspect and destructible environments which always makes for a fun experience! As it was only announced a few days ago at E3 there isn't much information on the game yet but from what we saw of the gameplay demo it looks promising and I can't wait to play it myself.

Destiny

Destiny is a science fiction upcoming first-person shooter set 700 years in the future, it's being developed by Bungie who also created the extremely successful Halo franchise. This is another game that I've been following the development of since it was first announced and will probably be one of the first games that I buy when I get a new console. You play as a Guardian, tasked with investigating and destroying hostile alien forces threatening to eliminate the remainder of humanity. Similar to games such as World of Warcraft, Skyrim or Mass Effect, you get to choose a class and race for your character which are heavily inspired by other science fiction or fantasy franchises like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. This seems like it would be another great game to play on co-op as you can team up with friends and make your own 'fire-team' and then join up with other fire-teams to participate in public events where you can defend against enemies and earn loot. I'm really looking forward to this game as it seems to be in a similar style to other science fiction games that I love such as Mass Effect and Halo yet it'll still be something new that will feel unique and fresh to play!

The Order: 1886

The Order: 1886 is set in an alternate Victorian London in which an order of Knights descended from King Arthur use advanced technology to protect against half-breed monsters. Personally I think this game has one of the most impressive and interesting plots I've ever heard of, plus it's right down my street as it combines the Victorian era with fantasy and horror elements. You will also apparently be able to interact with 'real-world historical characters' who will help you with quests and objectives that you have to complete, as well as visiting real places and being involved in real events. The Order is going to be a PS4 exclusive so I have a while to wait until I can play it but I'm still eagerly looking forward to it's release and it's definitely one of the main reasons why I want to buy a PS4 as well as an Xbox One.

I hope you all enjoyed reading about a few of the upcoming games that I'm excited for, or even better, maybe you now want them too. Let me know in the comments what games you're all looking forward to, I love hearing from other people who are into video games and there's really not enough about it in the blogging community!

Tag | Disney!

Saturday, 14 June 2014

Everyone knows I'm a huge Disney fan, I go crazy for everything and anything related to Disney which greatly annoys those closest to me as it's slightly like being around a hyper six year old most of the time haha. I'd been looking for an interesting Disney tag to do for ages as I know I have a few followers who also love Disney and would probably enjoy reading my answers then doing it themselves. I ended up combining two that I found as I wanted to swap around some of the questions to have the most relevant ones that anyone can answer, which resulted in this tag! I've also included a few photos from my most recent trip to Disney World as never miss a chance to see other peoples photos from there and of course it's Disney related so why not.

1. Favourite Disney Movie?
I definitely have a few favourite Disney films and couldn't narrow it down to just one, so I'd say my favourites are a tie between Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Pocahontas, 101 Dalmatians and The Aristocats.

2. Favourite and least favourite Disney Princess?
My favourite Disney Princess would have to be Elsa or Ariel, and I'd have to say my least favourite is Snow White as I find her a bit sappy sometimes!

3. Favourite and least favourite Disney Prince?
Eric is definitely my favourite Prince, also Flynn from Tangled. My least favourite is Snow White's prince because he doesn't do much.

4. Favourite and least favourite Disney Couple?
My favourite couple is Ariel and Eric or Belle and the Beast (Adam). The same as my answers above, my least favourite is Snow White and her Prince (Florian hahaha), but I still really enjoy the film even though I don't like them as much.

5. Favourite overall Disney Character?
I've always had a soft spot for Marie from The Aristocats but Elsa has to be one of my favourites too as I find that I can really relate to her character.

6. Which Princess inspires you?
Merida, Elsa and Pocahontas, all because they're three of the strongest Princesses in the films and enforce the fact that you don't need a man to make you happy.

7. Walt Disney World or Disneyland?
I've actually not been to Disneyland yet although I'm dying to go because it was the first Disney park, but I still think that even if I went, Disney World would be my favourite. I first went when I was 8 and it completely amazed me. Everything about it is done so well and completely transports you to a fantasy world. There really aren't words to describe how amazing I think it is!

8. The first Disney movie you remember seeing in the cinema?
I know I've seen others before this but the main one that I can remember seeing was Hercules with my younger cousin.

9. What type of Disney item do you collect the most?
I definitely collect the mugs and cups from the Disney store the most, but when I'm at Disney World I always stock up on the pins and charms for my bracelet.

10. Your favourite Disney song?
Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid or Let It Go from Frozen.

11. Your favourite ride/attraction at the parks?
It has to be a tie between Space Mountain and the Haunted Mansion rides, they're classic Disney attractions and no visit will ever be complete for me without me going on them at least ten times.

12. What would your dream job be at Disney?
I guess the typical answer to this would be as a Disney Cast Member playing a Princess or something similar, but I think I'd honestly love to be one of the tour guides for the behind the scenes tours. I'd love to take around fellow Disney fanatics and show them all the lesser known features and facts to do with the parks and Disney company!

13. Who's the park character you never want to miss meeting or seeing at the parks?
I'm not sure if this counts but I love seeing the Princesses on the parade floats. There's just something so magical about that, it takes me right back to being a little girl and seeing them for the first time.

14. What's your most treasured Disney item?
Definitely my Minnie Mouse ears that I got last time I went to Disney World. They were the first thing I bought and I didn't take them off!

15. Which Disney voice actor would you most like to meet?
Definitely Jodi Benson.

16. If you would say anything to Walt Disney right now, what would it bet?
I wouldn't say anything, I'd just take him to one of the parks (probably Disney World) and show him how loved and appreciated his dreams are.

17. Your favourite snack to get at the parks?
Oh this is such a hard question as anyone who knows me will know that I love all the food at the Disney parks, I think I'll have to go with a Raspberry Lemonade slushy. It was delicious.

18. Your favourite parade/show at the parks?
The Electrical Parade followed by the Wishes fireworks show.

19. Your favourite Disney memory?
It'll always be turning the corner on to Main Street and seeing Cinderella's Castle for the first time. That's a feeling that you can't beat.

20. Your favourite Princess dress/outfit?
Elsa's dress. Hands down Elsa's dress. It's beautiful.

21. Your favourite Disney soundtrack?
Probably The Little Mermaid or Frozen. It's difficult for me to find one single song I don't like from those two films.

22. Favourite restaurant at the parks?
Casey's Corner! I love the hot dogs they do, they taste amazing.

23. What attraction are you most likely to go to first when you're at the parks?
Either Cinderella's Castle or Space Mountain.

24. Your favourite "iconic" moment? (ex. Ariel on the rock, Aladdin finding the lamp, Rafiki lifting Simba, etc.)
When Elsa is creating her castle and her dress change during Let It Go.

25. What's the saddest moment for you in any Disney film?
The start of Up or when Belle thinks the Beast is dead. They reduce me to tears every time.

26. Best Disney kiss?
Belle and the Beast's when he's turned back into Adam, all I ever want is for someone to kiss me like that hahah!

27. If you could live in any world from a Disney movie, which would you choose?
I'd love to live in Ariel's world because I love Eric's castle, I think it's beautiful.

28.  Which Disney Princess has the best sidekicks?
Pocahontas definitely. Meeko is too cute.

29. If you could have a party themed around any Disney movie, which would you pick?
I'd probably choose all of them so everyone could come as a different character and you'd get a mix of every Disney film.

30. Which Disney movie, even if it's not your favourite, will always have a special place in your heart and for what reason?
Winnie the Pooh because I used to watch it nearly every day when I was younger and watching it now brings back so many good memories for me.

31. Post a picture of yourself that's Disney-related.
This is me at Hollywood Studios buying my first lot of new Disney pins, I remember I got a really cute Up one which was a grape soda bottle top and Marie from The Aristocats.

32. If you could choose the plot/adaptation for the next Disney movie, what would it be?
I'd love to go back to the roots of the classic Disney Princess films by using fairy tales, The Princess and the Pea would be a good one to adapt I think.

33. Which Princess would you dress up as for Halloween?
Probably Elsa or Ariel.

34. Which Disney Princess would you be?
Definitely Elsa, as I mentioned above, I can relate to her so much more than I can any other character.

35.  Which Disney movie do you turn to when you're sad/upset?
I'd have to say I turn to all of them really, if I'm having a bad day I'll just pick a random few off my shelf and have a marathon watching session. All of them end up cheering me up, even if I do have to have a little cry over the heartbreaking parts in between.

I hope you enjoyed reading through my answers and I definitely hope you do this yourselves, if you do don't forget to leave me the link in the comments section so I can see what you've put and your personal favourites!

Bucket List | Summer 2014

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

After seeing Megan from Briar Rose make a post featuring her bucket list of things to do in the upcoming summer I felt inspired to create my own and here it is! I've included things that I want to do during the summer such as going to a safari park, but also things that I need to do to benefit myself, like joining the gym or being more social because I think it would encourage me more and make me far more likely to actually do them.

None of these are particularly exciting, but I'll still aim to make a few posts showing you what I got up to and how I managed to cross some of these off my bucket list. I've already started on a few of these, I'm off for my first gym session tomorrow and I'm currently in the middle of redecorating and slightly updating my room which I'm really looking forward to doing a room tour post on, maybe even a video!

Has anyone else been inspired to do a post on their summer bucket list ideas, or have you already got a few things you're aiming to do this summer? Let me know in the comments!

Wishlist | Etsy Art Favourites

Sunday, 1 June 2014

Etsy is hands down one of my favourite websites. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a way cooler version of eBay that sells handmade or vintage items by individual sellers. They also have a huge section dedicated to all the craft supplies you could ever dream of! It's a great way to find unique items and also to discover new artists who sell their beautiful artwork at affordable prices. I have the app on my phone as I love to browse through it when I'm bored and favourite items which I'd love to purchase in the future. I decided to do a small series showing you some of my favourite items or shops/artists currently on Etsy to hopefully give you all an insight into the kind of things that I like and also give due exposure to the products or people that I feature. I'm going to start it off with some of the art pieces that I'm currently lusting over as I'm redecorating my room right now and want to buy more individual artwork or similar items for my walls.

Terrarium No.1 Postcard | Terrarium No.2 Postcard

The first two prints are by an artist that I discovered recently on Etsy, Oana Befort. I fell in love with her work straight away as it's so detailed but has a slight element of surrealism which is one of my favourite art movements. She states that she gets most of her inspiration from nature, people, animals, insects, vintage books and daily life, which you can immediately see in her pieces and I'm really drawn to the nature/floral/animal aspects. As well as having a bunch of beautiful different artwork in her shop, she also accepts custom orders. I'm definitely going to purchase some items off her in the near future as they'd really suit the theme that I want for my room and even without that, they're amazing!

Harry Potter Flying Car Poster | Peter Pan Poster

The next two pieces are two that I've had favourited for a while now by Seal Design Studio which is owned by an artist, Leon, and a designer, May, based in Sydney. They specialise in modern decor prints which are simple yet would look great in any room in any house. The main reason I was drawn to their shop was because of their incredible Star Wars inspired prints, as well as the Disney and Harry Potter ones which I have featured above. They'd make a great present for any Star Wars fan, but I personally really want the Peter Pan moon poster above, it's super cute!

--x-x-x--

Valar Morghulis | Goest & F-keth Thyself
These  two pieces are slightly different from the others as they're not directly 'art' and maybe a little more 'provacative' than what some people may be used to but I saw them on Tumblr and thought they were brilliant! I love cross-stitching myself and would love to create my own things like this which I may look at doing soon. These two are from the Naughty Little Stitch shop owned by a mama living in Belgium who stitches for fun in her free time, and I especially love the second one, the purple flowers are adorable and I think the quote on it is brilliant too.

--x-x-x--

Soul Made of Meadow Flowers | Wild Air
Katie Daisy is the owner of The Wheatfield and creates unique art pieces with a combination of delicate hand lettering and bright illustrations. Her work is another that I've found through Tumblr and have had in my favourites for a good while now. I've not yet gotten around to purchasing anything from her, partly because I love everything she does and find it so hard to pick just a few that I want. Her work is so refreshing and she does a lot of flora and fauna inspired art as well as illustrating inspiring quotes. If I had even a tiny bit of her talent I'd be so pleased with myself, unfortunately I don't but at least I can buy her work to have in my house instead!

--x-x-x--

Oak Forest and the Siskiyou | Orion and the Blue Ridge Mountains

Elise Mahan is yet another artist on Etsy that I found through Tumblr. In her shop she sells a mix of etheral landscaps and sky scenes inspired by astromony, natural history, and the universe. She creates her paintings using a range of materials which include watercolor, ink, graphite, metallic pigments, and collage elements. Her work is slightly darker than the others that I've featured so far but there's something about it that I really like. It's also quite simple yet detailed at the same time which definitely makes it interesting to look at, always a plus because nobody wants boring artwork!

--x-x-x--

I hope you enjoyed this small glimpse into a few of the amazing artists and artwork that you can find on Etsy. Hopefully you may have found a few things you like through this post, or even just ended up having a browse through the site to see what you could find for yourself. Feel free to link me to any similar artists or pieces that you think I may like, I'm always looking for more!
