Haul | Books

As you may know, I'm a massive lover and reader of books whether it be on my kindle, fanfiction online, or 'actual' books. One of the main annoyances I have when purchasing new books is that they're so damn expensive! I don't have enough money to be spending £7/8 on one book, let alone the other 500 odd books on my Goodreads to-read wishlist. With a budget in mind I decided to have a look on eBay and the used section on Amazon to see how the prices compared and I am so glad I did. I picked up eight new books for around £20 between the two sites with postage included. They're all fairly good quality, some are basically brand new, others with just a few creases on the cover which for around £3, doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm annoyed with myself for not thinking of buying my books this way sooner but from now on it'll definitely be the main way that I purchase new books (sorry Waterstones!).

"Touring provincial France and sometimes Paris in a borrowed, once elegant car, Phillip Dean, a Yale dropout, and a young French shop girl, Anne-Marie Costallot, burn in an everyday but stunningly sensual paradise. Their love affair is imagined in intense detail by an unnamed narrator, whose fantasies become compellingly and hauntingly real."

"One night Melanie walks through the garden in her mother's wedding dress. The next morning her world is shattered. Forced to leave the rural home of her childhood, she is sent to London to live with relatives she has never met: gentle Aunt Margaret, mute since her wedding day; and her brothers, Francie, whose graceful music belies his clumsy nature, and the volatile Finn, who kisses Melanie in the pleasure garden. Brooding over all is Uncle Philip, who loves only the puppets he creates in his workshop, which are life-sized - and uncannily life-like."

"A novel of the woman dubbed 'The First Flapper' - Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, wife and muse to F. Scott Fitzgerald. Set against the glamorous backdrop of the Roaring Twenties, Z is the story of the woman who lived large and ached to find her own identity in the shadow of her celebrated husband."

"Evie O'Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City - and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realises she could help catch a killer.
As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho hides a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened..."

"In June of 1999, Stephen King was hit by a van while walking along the shoulder of a country road in Maine. Six operations were required to save his life and mend his broken body. When he was finally able to sit up, he immediately started writing. This book is the extraordinary result."

"He was a writer. She was his Number One Fan. She'd pulled him out of the car-wreck, brought him home, splinted and set his mangled legs. All he had to do in return was to write a very special book, just for her, all about her favourite character from his novels. One he'd killed off and now had to bring back to life.
Because if he didn't, if he was Bad and Didn't Do What Nurse Told Him, she would be cross - very cross - and do things that would make him scream and scream..."

"Dexter Morgan appears to be the perfect gentleman. He leads a normal, quiet life working as a forensic officer for the Miami Police. He has a nice, shy girlfriend and is liked by her young children. But Dexter has a secret hobby. he's an accomplished serial killer. So far he's killed dozens of people and has never been caught, because he knows exactly how to dispose of the evidence. And there are those who would rather he wasn't caught at all, because Dexter is a serial killer with a difference. He only kills the city's bad guys. Then Dexter's well-organised life is thrown into chaos. Another serial killer is invading his territory - and he wants Dexter to come out and play..."

"Jodie and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. he is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose."

As you can see, I went for a mix of books which I had selected at random from my Goodreads wishlist. Some of these are books that I've been waiting to read for a really long time and others are ones which were recently added or that I don't know too much about so I'm extremely excited to get stuck in. I haven't yet decided which book to read first so definitely let me know in the comments which you think I should start with.
Have any of you read these books before? What did you think of them or are there any others that are similar which you'd like to recommend to me? You can also find me on Goodreads and add me here.
