LUSH Aqua Marina Cleanser - £6.25/100g

"Our pink squishy cleanser that was inspired by mermaids. An ocean of ingredients to soothe and calm the skin.
We make a mixture of carrageen extract, vegetable glycerine, Irish moss gel and aloe vera gel. We mix in fine sea salt, sweet wild orange oil and patchouli oil. Then we bind these together with calamine powder and kaolin. Finally we roll the mix inside a large sheet of nori seaweed - to create a huge facial sushi."

For my first Lush review I'll be giving my opinion on the Aqua Marina cleanser. I'd wanted this for a while as I thought it might be a good cleanser for my sensitive skin and luckily my mum got it in a Lush gift set for Christmas and gave me it to use.
First of all, it comes in the standard Lush black tub but you'll probably need to use a spoon or something similar to get the actual product out because it's quite thick and feels a lot like clay. I made the mistake of using my fingers the first time I tried it and ended up with it all under my nails, gross! Before I tried it I was slightly dubious about how it would smell as I'd read reviews where people had said it smelt slightly funky though personally I didn't mind, I actually found it quite refreshing so don't be put off by other reviews but go in to the store and have a good sniff of it before you purchase

To use it you take a pea-sized amount and mix it with water to form a paste or milk then massage it in to your skin and wash off with warm water. I found that it was slightly difficult to get the right consistency with no lumps and also messy to apply with having to mix it then rub it on your face, I ended up with little bits of seaweed everywhere!
After using it my skin felt clean and smooth, plus it left me with minimised pores but that could be because my skin felt a lot tighter when I had washed and dried my face. Luckily my skin wasn't actually dry, just firmer and my moisturiser soaked in quickly afterwards. Another plus was that I have very sensitive skin which can sometimes react quite badly but my skin was fine whilst using it and after using it there were still no redness or sore patches on my face.
My main con was that I was dissapointed by the fact that although this claims to be a cleanser, it didn't remove my makeup very well. I'd say it's more of a cleanser that you'd use as part of your every day skincare routine to make sure your skin is completely clean than a cleanser you'd use to remove makeup and dirt right down in your pores.

Overall, I liked Aqua Marina but I don't think it did enough for me to want to repurchase it. I do think it's very good value for money though as you pay £6.25 for this tub which looks tiny, but you only use a pea sized amount every time so it'll last a while! To me personally, I can get the same or better results from other products that I use for a lot cheaper, especially as it didn't remove my makeup properly. Although it is good for sensitive skin so if you often react badly to other products then I'd recommend trying this.
I may try this again in the future, probably in the Summer because I tend to get really bad hayfever and I'm interested in seeing what this does on my skin when it flares up again.

  3. This is a really useful review, I've got sensitive skin and was looking for a better cleanser. I've started using Simple though, have you used it? Lush can be very expensive but it always looks so nice!

    1. Yes! Simple is my all time favourite skincare range. I've never had a bad reaction to any of their products plus their moisturizer is one of the only ones I've found that actually sorts out my skin when it's super dry!
